Radio play directors who improvise, poets who compose, composers who recite, architects who explore sound, instrumentalists who programme \u2013 the newly founded festival shut up and listen!<\/em> shifts certain areas of current sound-related art from the fringes to the limelight. In 2006, the focus of the festival is on audio plays, sound art and acousmatic music, three genres with a lot in common. Current works show that not only are the borders between genres blurred, but there is a young generation of artists which has easily, almost playfully, mastered not only one but many of them. With that in mind, shut up and listen!<\/em> presents three evenings of current Austrian and international positions as well as a panel discussion in which participating artists will address possibilities of sound-only presentations. Besides being broadcast on Radio Orange 94.0 and Radio \u00d61,<\/em> the festival\u2019s media cooperation with radia<\/em>, an international network of independent radio stations, ensures that shut up and listen!<\/em> will reach an international audience.<\/div>

In his surround-sound audio play Sehen mit Ohren<\/em> the architect and musician Ulrich Troyer explores the auditory everyday-life situation of blind people. The Wiener Ger\u00e4uschorchester<\/em> performs the live audio play Der Bauch<\/em> (broadcast live on Radio Orange 94.0). With Proyecto Itinerante<\/em> (initiated in Argentina and Chile) a selection of electroacoustic and acousmatic works that has toured thus far in Athens, Berlin, Buenos Aires, London, Paris, Santiago de Chile and Valpara\u00edso can be heard for the first time in Vienna. This \u201ctraveling music project\u201d will also be featured on May 5, 2006, on Zeit-Ton <\/em>(Radio ORF-\u00d61). In instrumentum vocale<\/em> the writer and musician J\u00fcrgen Berlakovich performs 5 figures in text and sound. The lineup on day three includes the acousmatic composition Sieben<\/em> by Igor Lintz-Mau\u00e9s; Form einer Frage,<\/em> Martina Lunzer Brem\u2019s audio play that uses sound material based on direct quotes;<\/em> and Antje Vowinckel\u2019s audio play Call me yesterday<\/em>, which won a prize at the Festival Donaueschinger Musiktage<\/em>. Bernhard G\u00e1l & Kai Fagaschinski present Zwischen den Seen<\/em>, an \u201caudio play concert\u201d based on sound recordings from a trip to Buckow in Brandenburg. During the festival, visitors can experience the interactive sound installation Die Selbstschenkerin <\/em>by the sound artist noid (aka Arnold Haberl).<\/div>
